Photogravure is the only photographic printing process which offers the possibiliy of reproducing continous tone in a print.

Hand-printed photogravure is unsurpassed by any other process for work of the highest quality. It is much used for small editions and for subjects requiring individual treatment.

The original source used to make a photogravure need not necessarily be a photograph. Any kind of drawing can be processed since a transparent medium is being used. Photographic positives can be reworked as well.

Printing a photogravure is much like printing any kind of intaglio work but with a slight difference in the pressure; printing a photogravure requires maximum pressure.
